• Mothers who experience all lifestyles with children of all ages are encouraged to attend
Climb Wyoming, which is an organization that offers career training and job placement support to single mothers throughout Wyoming, is hosting a luncheon and discussion event in Afton on Thursday, February 20 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Afton Civic Center. Guests will receive lunch and $100 in cash for their attendance.
Mothers who experience all lifestyles with children of all ages are encouraged to attend and invited to share hopes and challenges when it comes to getting support with employment.
Greta Frohlich, the Teton Area Director for Climb Wyoming, shared details about the event in an interview on SVI Radio. “We know that poverty affects single moms in Wyoming more than anyone else.” The mission of the program is to help women discover their strengths and skills and support those women by matching their skills with employers in their home communities. The program is “really an opportunity for women to hone in on what they think they’re good at and have an opportunity to get their foot in the door and try that out.”
Climb Wyoming is calling this discussion event a “listening session. This is a little different than what we typically do. We usually work with single moms, but this is actually an opportunity to hear from all mothers. Maybe what their hopes and struggles are in terms of work and what we’re looking to do is learn more about what’s happening for you as a mom in your home community. We know there are so many barriers out there, whether it’s transportation or childcare or the cost of living, which continues to increase, whether that’s rent or groceries. A lot of you moms are working job schedules that aren’t aligning with your family needs.”
Frohlich and her team are hoping to bring the women in the community together for a discussion about what employment and family needs look like for women in Lincoln, Sublette and Teton Counties.
“We hope people can come and make it on your lunch break,” said Frohlich. “We know that you’re taking time out of your day and so we’re going to actually offer $100 to come and share as much or as little as you want.”
Graduates of Climb Wyoming will receive an additional $50 for bringing a mom or friend to the event. Registration is appreciated, but not required. Ladies can register or learn more with the QR code to the left or by visiting climbwyoming.org/momfocus.
Additional sessions are offered in other communities. A Jackson session is Tuesday, February 18, from noon to 1:30 at the Teton County library. A Pinedale session is happening Wednesday, February 19, from noon to 1:30 at the Pinedale County library.
“If you’re in Jackson for work already, you can stop by there,” said Frohlich. “You can reach out to me directly. My email is greta@climbwyoming.org. I would always be happy to set something up and connect with you for a phone call. The best way for people to get started with Climb Wyoming is to give me a call or shoot me a text.
