In what was the first ever home dual for the squad now in its third season, the Star Valley Lady Braves showed why they are in line to win the program’s third straight team title as they defeated a high quality Pinedale squad 57-22.

While there were plenty of good bouts, it was the final varsity match that highlighted the evening as senior Veil Foreman collected her 100th victory. Foreman has been part of the sport since her middle school days and wrestled her freshman year in co-ed matches before the state of Wyoming sanctioned the girls sport three years ago.

“I’m really grateful to have gotten there,” Foreman stated after the dual of the 100th win. “I’m glad it could happen at our home [dual]. I’m grateful to be able to be healthy and stay out there.”

Foreman and the Lady Braves now prep for the Regional tournament which is scheduled to take place on February 21-22 in Evanston.

“The post season is probably my favorite,” she said. “It’s more free and I get to go to some really big tournaments and go up against some really good girls so I’m excited.”

Foreman was part of the girls wrestling movement over her four-year high school career but when asked about her favorite match this season, her answer was more about the love of the sport itself.

“I would probably just say the first match of the year [was the most memorable],” she stated. “It was fun to be back out there. There are girls who are wrestling their first match and it’s exciting.”

Foreman has lost one match in her high school career as a freshman and has captured two Ron Thon titles and will be looking for her second state title later this month.

“That would be super awesome and I hope that happens,” she added.

Coach Kevin Waldron commented on the program’s first ever home dual.

“It’s a historic night and a fun night,” he said. “We both have tough wrestlers in our lineup. Even in our matches that we lost tonight I think we learned some things. We’re gonna watch some film and learn but what a fun night.”

Star Valley has won the first two girls state titles and Pinedale has been the runner-up. While the sport is headed for more classifications, for now, it is an all-class tournament.

“These are the only two teams that could probably get together and fill all the weights,” Waldron added. “That’s really cool and that’s how it’s supposed to be.”

Waldron also praised his seniors who have helped build the program in their time at SVHS. The Lady Braves seniors include: Eliza England, Veil Foreman, Cashlee Hepworth, Keston Johnson, Kenna Merritt, Addie Mizner and Hallie Robertson
