• “PEARL A PUTNAM and the love of her life WYOMING POET Pistol Davis.”

By Ron Anderson, Star Valley Historical Society

Margaret Tueller will share the saga of Pearl Athalinda Putnam (1874-1941) and her husband William Henry Davis (1867-1903) as told by their daughter Inda Leavitt (1894-1990). The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Salt River Center in Afton.

At the time of their marriage (1891) in Auburn, Wyoming, Star Valley was very much a wild west frontier settlement. The young couple’s first son George William Davis (1892-1903) and daughter Celesta Athalinda (1894-1990) were born before the family moved to Dayton then Shell, Wyoming in the Big Horn Basin. Life was tough at best for Pearl, a mother of six children, only to be met by tragedies of July 1903 which left her a widow mourning the loss of both her husband and first born son.

The public is invited to come join us for great programing sharing the history of Star Valley, Wyoming and more.

Original handwritten 1902 poem by Wiliam Henry Davis.
