• SVHS girls basketball team used senior night as an opportunity
The Lady Braves seniors decided to use their last home game against visiting Jackson as an opportunity to try and make a financial difference to a family in Green River going through a tragedy.
Jeffrey Wilson and Kathrine Franklin both sustained fatal injuries in an accident on February 19 outside of Green River on Highway 374 south of the Interstate-80 interchange. Wilson is the father of Green River High School basketball player Nicole, who has been a conference opponent for the Lady Braves for several years.
Seniors Emily Dana and Austyn Bagley spoke with SVI about the fundraiser which netted $3,004 due to their efforts.
“We were sad because we know her and we have played against her,” Dana said. “We put her in our prayers and felt we should do something. For me personally it was important because our family has been through something similar with my uncle Dakota. We just wanted to let her know we cared about her.”
Emily is the granddaughter of Frank and Barbara Dana who died in a tragic car accident in February of 2008.
“We wanted to do something for her and it was something we could all help with,” Bagley added.
The 4A West Regionals take place this week in Rock Springs and match-ups are likely that the Lady Braves will face Green River on Friday.
