• The love of horses is combined with art, journaling and building positive relationships
Young horse enthusiasts have something to look forward to this summer as Horse Warriors™ unveils its annual summer horse camps, designed for children ages 8 to 11. Two programs, Pony Camp and Read, Ride & Draw, will be hosted at the scenic Diamondfly Ranch in Thayne.
Both camps offer hands-on horse time, including arena riding, games, and the popular Braid Parade. Activities are complemented by art and journaling sessions that allow participants to reflect on their experience and express themselves creatively.
The Read, Ride & Draw camp includes a literary twist, incorporating group reading, story discussions, and personal journaling into the equine-focused schedule. “Students get very invested in the stories we read,” said Priscilla Marden, Executive Director of Horse Warriors™. “We do all different kinds of reading – reading aloud at lunch by instructors, ‘reading in the round’ by students, and silent reading. We always take time to make sure all new vocabulary words are understood and we keep notes of those in our handmade journals. The journals are beautiful works of art that each child gets to create.”
Each camper receives books to take home, as well as t-shirts, safety equipment, and all necessary art supplies.
Space is limited and camps fill quickly. Interested families are encouraged to contact Horse Warriors™ at 307-690-6124 or email horsewarriors@wyoming.com to reserve a spot.
