Afton Police Department investigating fatality from SVHS incident

According to information released by the Afton Police Department (APD), the department is investigating an incident that occurred at Star Valley High School during the evening hours of September 12, 2018 where there has been a fatality.

According to LCSD #2 Superintendent Matt Erickson “A male student was life-flighted to [Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center] and succumbed to his injuries early this morning.”

“We would please ask to respect the family at this time,” Erickson added.

The APD echoed those sentiments.

“At this time due to the sensitivity of this incident, the name of the victim will not be released until all proper notification of the next of kin has been made.

The student was a freshman at SVHS, Ryder Haderlie.

Lincoln County School District #2 released the youth’s name via a Facebook post.

Erickson emphasized “all hands on on deck” with counselors at Star Valley High School, Star Valley Middle School and at the elementary schools involving siblings.

The LCSD #2 Facebook statement said “It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community. On September 12, Ryder Haderlie, a 9th grade student at Star Valley High School was involved in an accident that resulted in the loss of life. This los sis sure to raise many emotions, concerns and questions for our entire school district, especially our students.

Our school district has a Crisis Intervention Team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents and school personnel at difficult times such as this. We have counselors available for any student who may want assistance surrounding this loss.”

LCSD #2 will post information on their website, lcsd2.org which may be useful.

“We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to help your child as needed.”
