Cameron Erickson Discusses Braves Basketball

Cameron Erickson has been having an absolutely monstrous season for the Star Valley Lady Braves on the court this season, as the Braves central cog in the offense, the scoring has had a tendency to go through #34 for a majority of the season which is all the more impressive considering the time lost last season for Erickson due to injury. Erickson took some time last week to stop by in person to the SVI station to talk about her huge bounce back year and the bounce back year for the team as a whole with Aaron and Dahl.

The Lady Braves have appreciated having Erickson once again currently leading the team in scoring, 3 pt shooting, shooting % overall and Cameron claims her dedication to hitting the gym for practicing her in-game shots and free throw shooting the instant her knee was ready to go. “Now that I’m ready to play I don’t really think about it too much” Erickson said in regards to last season’s injury being in her mind during play, Erickson appears to have totally put the injury behind her mentally and has moved on to focus on just playing and it has shown so far.

Erickson also credits her 2 starting guards for a lot of the scoring she has been able to do this year saying that the 2 “Thrives” as Dahl so graciously called them create so many turnovers and are such talented passers that Erickson can solely focus on doing what she does best which is put herself in a position to score, and the way she has been shooting this year that hasn’t been too difficult. One huge element of that has been not only is Cameron shooting a team high 48% FG this year but is also shooting 40% from beyond the arc which also makes her the team leader in 3 point shooting.

Ironically the one thing that Cameron ranks low on the team in and is the aspect of her game that Erickson herself claims is the biggest area of improvement in her game this year has been the theoretically easiest shot in her free throw shooting. The Lady Braves have been hitting it hard at practice though having every player shoot 100 free throws during every practice to improve those percentages which Erickson believes will help and once she has that area of her game nailed down, she may very well be nearly unstoppable offensively with the Regional tournament right around the corner this weekend.

It is always nice to play at home which the Braves have the advantage of doing this year, thought Erickson claims while she loves playing in front of the home crowd she arguably enjoys playing on the road even more with the camaraderie of the bus trip mixed with playing against the other teams crowd makes for a fun overall playing experience.
