Cowboys pluck the Gamecocks 73-64 for third win of the season

The Cowboys might have made it just a little more difficult to get quality teams to come to Laramie after knocking off South Carolina 73-64 on Wednesday evening.

Always a chore to try and get quality opponents to visit 7,220 feet, the Gamecocks had personal connections with head coach Allen Edwards but may not be back again after going just 3 of 20 from beyond the arc and losing their fourth game of the season (4-4). By contrast, the Cowboys finished with 10 three-point baskets made on 20 attempts.

Wyoming continues to be led by Justin James who scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to pace a second half where UW outscored the visitors by 13 points.

Jake Hendricks, a JUCO transfer from the College of Southern Idaho, continues to be the Pokes’ best three-point threat, hitting five-of-eight from beyond the arc and finish with 16 points. Freshman TJ Taylor continues to impress as he finished with 11 points. Ny Redding and Hunter Maldonado each scored nine and redshirt freshman Hunter Thompson finished with six points.

A.J. Lawson led USC with 15 points but needed 16 shots to get it. Chris silva finished with 11. and missed 11 shots of his own.

With the win, the Cowboys improved to (3-6) on the season and perhaps stirred up some excitement for a fan base that was largely absent on Wednesday with an announced crowd of just 3,657. The fans will have a chance to redeem themselves on Tuesday, December 11, as Wyoming hosts (2-7) Denver University. Listen to the games all season long on The Spur.
