Hams Fork Fire Starts near Kemmerer

KEMMERER, Wyo., August 3, 2018 – The Hams Fork Fire was discovered on the Kemmerer Ranger District at 2:00 p.m. today. The 3-acre fire is burning in timber with some isolated single-tree torching. The fire is 3-miles west of the Hams Fork campground. There are no road closures and the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Interagency crews from the Bridger-Teton National Forest, Bureau of Land Management and Lincoln County are responding to the fire. The Hams Fork fire will be fully suppressed. Wildfires burning under the right weather conditions and in appropriate locations can break-up forest fuels and create landscapes that are more resistant to large, high-severity fires. A combination of tools, including the use of restoration wildfire, can help managers reduce the risk of future mega-fires in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. However, in the conditions for the Hams Fork fire, and the proximity to the campground, forest officials made the decision to extinguish the fire.

Fire danger remains at High on the Bridger-Teton National Forest and all visitors are reminded to completely extinguish campfires before leaving the area. For more information visit www.tetonfires.com
