Lady Braves fall to Jackson while the Braves forge a tie

The Star Valley soccer teams met Jackson Hole High School on April 24 as the two programs concluded their home and home schedule. The Broncs are a 4A team but the Braves are scheduled to join the 4A ranks starting next school year.

Lady Broncs: 6 Lady Braves: 1

A pair of early mistakes by Star Valley contributed to early goals by visiting Jackson who routed the Lady Braves for the second time in less than a month.

Bailey Hills scored first in the 5th minute as a routine ball went through the hands of Star Valley keeper Josie Currie.

Failure to clear the ball out of the box in the 15th minute led to another goal from Selah Hunter to make the score 2-0. Hunter, a freshman, then put on a display of speed and skill to take the ball the length of the field to score again in the 25th minute.

The Lady Broncs scored again in the 38th minute for a 4-0 score.

Star Valley’s bright spot in the match came just as the halftime buzzer sounded as Tassie Meikle made a run which concluded in a collision with keeper Izzy Uptain. Liz Smith took advantage and put in the goal for a 4-1 score.

Jackson got goals from Rachyl Fairbanks and Melany Perez in the second half for the final tally. The win improved the Lady Broncs to a record of (7-4-1) while the Lady Braves fell to (6-5-1).

Broncs: 1 Braves: 1

A very entertaining match between two good teams resulted in regulation tie as the two staffs opted to skip the overtime periods.

Gerson Lozano scored in the 39th minute on a penalty kick after Brant Nelson was taken down in the box as Star Valley took the lead.

Rico Vasquez put in the equalizer in the 51st after an amazing dribbling run by Jafet Hernandez-Mereno.

The Broncs record now stands at (5-6-1) with the Braves now at (8-2-1).

The Star Valley soccer teams will be hosting Worland on Friday and Lander on Saturday.
