Mountain States Stockdog Association Finals in Afton July 18-21

The Mountain States Stockdog Association will be in Star Valley this next week for competitions. The stockdog chapionships will run from July 18 to July 21.

“It is free admission all week long,” said Sheri Wight, one of the event organizers. “There will be food and shopping vendors all week as well.”

According to Wight, dogs and handler teams from all over the country will be competing for over $40,000 in cash and prizes.

“Highly trained cattle dogs will be directed by and working with their handlers to move cattle through a series of obstacles in the fastest time possible,” she said. “There are four major classes of competition – Open, Nursery, Intermediate and Novice. We will also have a Junior Handler class competing on Saturday.”

Thursday night there will be a dinner and live music provided for all sponsors and handlers.

Friday night is a 4-H Benefit Auction for the Lincoln County 4-H program. All proceeds go directly to local 4-H groups.

A local 4-H club will also be doing “dog washes” on Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21 as a fundraiser.
“Bring your dogs down for a good bath and a good cause,” Wight said. “Saturday is family day! There will be free bounce houses and face painting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and our Junior (14 years old and younger) handler class will be competing on Saturday as well.”
