Snake River Streaks: Lady Braves win 15th straight; Broncs win 4th straight in Snake River Shootout

The final week of basketball’s regular season is underway as Star Valley made the short trip up Snake River Canyon to take on their rivals from Jackson.

Lady Braves: 50  Lady Broncs: 42

The Lady Braves (9-10) got a huge game from Abby Coles who led the way with 23 points and eight rebounds as Star Valley held off the Lady Broncs (5-13) by the score of 50-42. Cassie Hunsaker scored seven points for the third straight game and pulled down five rebounds. Caitland Erickson and Otessa Olsen six points apiece. Olivia Muir led the team with nine rebounds.

The Lady Broncs got 14 point from Rachyl Fairbanks, 11 points from Grace Turner and 10 points from Hailey Hardeman.

The victory was the 15th straight in the series for the Lady Braves which dates back to the 2009-10 season. Star Valley and Jackson will both be part of the 4A Southwest next season.

Braves: 51  Broncs: 60

The Braves (8-11) had a good start and led the Broncs 24-23 at the half but Jackson’s Nate Fairbanks scored ten of his 18 points in third quarter as Jackson led by 15 midway through the fourth quarter. Pete Wotkyns scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Will Geraci finished with 11 points.

Star Valley got 16 points from Payton Erickson and a monster double-double from Kambel Jenkins who had 15 points and 13 rebounds. Andrew Jeske chipped in six points.

The win for the Broncs was the fourth straight in the series between the two schools, the longest such streak for Jackson since the 1969-70 season.

Star Valley’s basketball teams will wrap the regular season on Thursday evening as they travel to Pinedale to take on the Wranglers.
