EVANSTON — An Idaho man in his 20s was killed this morning when he was struck by a semi-truck as he tried to cross Interstate 80 on foot near exit 3 in Evanston.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) has released the name of the man who has been identified as Kyle Waters.

The driver of the semi-truck has been identified as Cade Jasperson.

WHP Trooper Scott Neilson said the man was staying with his parents, who are from Eagle, Idaho, at the Hampton Inn. Neilson said the man also lived in Idaho, and the family met in Evanston. He said he doesn’t know why the man was trying to cross the interstate on foot.

“He was having some issues and some problems,” Neilson said, “got confused and lost so they were just meeting in Evanston.”

Neilson said there’s no reason to believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident, and no one was arrested or cited.

The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. WYDOT closed all eastbound lanes at 9:37 a.m., and reopened the interstate at 10:10 a.m.

According to scanner traffic, a second ambulance responded because the man’s mother was in shock. However, according to a post on Uinta County Fire and Ambulance’s Facebook page, no one was transported in the second ambulance.
