A snowmobiler survived an avalanche in the Blind Bull area Thursday after being buried up to his chin.
Star Valley Search & Rescue said that shortly after 3:00 p.m. they were activated to the area on the boarder of Lincoln and Sublette counties. Commander Matt McMurdo said the group was out of Pinedale. When the avalanche occurred another group of riders saw it from the other side of the canyon and raced over to help. According to McMurdo, the rider was able to deploy her avalanche air bag and was luckily only buried up to her chin. After extracting her, the party was able to transport the rider to the Blind Bull warming hut where S&R and EMS met up with them. EMS stabilized the patient and waited for medical helicopter transport to arrive. S&R said the patient sustained injuries, but otherwise was fine.
Star Valley Search & Rescue reminds all riders that the current conditions in the Bridger Teton National Forest are listed as moderate and ask folks to please plan as if the conditions were considerable. Current avalanche conditions can be found at BridgerTetonAvalancheCenter.org.
