Grass Volleyball Tournament happens in Thayne on Friday

• Co-Ed teams can take home up to $200.

Volleyball fans may want to add some friendly competition to their Independence weekend with the Grass Volleyball Tournament in Thayne on Friday, July 5, at 10 a.m. Games are scheduled to take place at Veterans Park at southeast of the Thayne Community Center located at 250 Vannoy Parkway.

Thayne Town Clerk, Rebecca Hutchinson, visited with SVI Media and shared details about the event. “This is kind of a fun thing to do if you love volleyball and love to compete and be outside.”

Hutchinson encouraged folks to gather a team of four players and be prepared to compete in one of two classes – the Social class, or the Competitive class. Teams are co-ed and competition begins at 10 a.m.

Teams are encouraged to register in advance at Thayne-WY.com, but on-site registration will be open the morning of the event beginning at 9:30. The registration fee for each team is $50. Visitors to the valley for the holiday are welcome to put a team or two together and join the fun. Hutchinson is also willing to build teams from registering individuals if enough solo players reach out hoping to play.

“We want teams to play as many games as they can,” said Hutchinson. “We’re planning on having a pool play where they’ll at least play two games, and then divide people up into a tournament kind of a bracket.” The winning team in the Competitive division will take home a $200 award and the Social division winning team will receive $100.

“I think it’s going to be a great event,” Hutchinson concluded. It’ll be a lot of fun.”
