A found wallet led to the discovery of a missing woman inside Grand Teton National Park earlier this week.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol said on Sunday, July 7 a fisherman discovered a wallet belonging to Laura Lane, a Nampa, Idaho woman who had been reported as missing since June 2. A search in the area ensued, and using a drone deputies and park rangers found a fully submerged red passenger car in the Buffalo Fork River near Moran along US 26 near milepost 1. The vehicle matched the description of the car belonging to Lane. The car, with Lane’s body still inside, were recovered the following day on Monday, July 7.

WHP said it appeared that Lane’s car drifted across the eastbound lane, off the south shoulder, and vaulted off a cliff into the river. The car floated for a quarter mile before submerging. At the time she went missing, Lane was reported to have been traveling from Buffalo, Wyoming back to her home in Nampa.
