LCSD No. 2 Board Recap

 

• Notes from the September 11 Board meeting.

In addition to the discussion of property tax and how it affects the local district budget which can be found in a separate story in this edition of the newspaper, here are some items of note from the September 11, 2024 meeting of the LCSD No. 2 board of trustees.

• According to Superintendent Matt Erickson, there were an estimated 99 families and 198 students who were utilizing a home schooling atmosphere last year. Currently those numbers are estimated at 71 families with 164 students in a home schooling situation.

• Erickson added that the district has 2,933 students which is down 13 from September of 2023. Star Valley High School is down 33 from last year.

• Chairman Darnell Simpson announced that the district had received two donations. One was from an anonymous donor for $600 for SVHS Volleyball. The other was $500 from Silver Star Communications for SVHS Speech and Debate.

• Facilities Manager Warren Hicks addressed the board and stated that the sound issues from the first week of football season at the field have been addressed and fixed. He also stated that the new additional turf field was expected to be completed by the end of the week with landscaping set to begin this week along with fencing projects.

• Hicks noted that the new bleachers at Braves Field have 528 additional seats than the previous setup of approximately 950 for a total of over 1,400. He also noted that the new turf practice field holds 135,000 pounds of silica sand and 308,000 pounds of crumb rubber for a total of over 221 tons of material.

• Hicks stated that the Cokeville High School roof was due for its final inspection on Tuesday, September 17 and that district sprinkler systems are beginning to be winterized. He also reported that district snow removal equipment is being prepared and heating systems are being checked and serviced.
