A Guide to Apocalypse Survival

These are interesting, albeit scary, times. The COVID-19 virus is spreading monumentally with no end in sight. The Dow Jones has dropped to the point where the United States might reach another recession as well. Given these circumstances, one might see this as a start to an apocalyptic breakdown. After all, no one knows what’s next. Aliens, zombies, giant meteors crashing into Earth—anything is possible. Therefore, it’s important to read this guide to apocalypse survival. Whether zombies or aliens take over, or Earth’s inhabitants go extinct, it’s best to prepare yourself for the inevitable. However, it’s important to know that this is all hypothetical, and no one should ever do anything considered illegal or improper under any federal, regional, or local legalities.

Have Access to Food and Water

Two of the most important aspects of apocalypse survival are food and water. It’s common sense that people will rush to grocery stores and supermarkets to scavenge anything they can carry. While this is not a bad idea, it certainly leaves you vulnerable to thieves and looters. No matter what, you should carry non-perishables with you at all times in a backpack to supply yourself with energy. Similarly, pack some water purification tablets in case you find a lake or other body of fresh water that you can drink from. These will prove vital to your health and wellbeing.

Stock Up on Medicine

While you likely don’t have access to hospital or pharmaceutical-grade medicines, take this opportunity to stock up on over-the-counter ones. Just like with food and water, the longer you wait to do this, the greater the chance other people will have beat you to it. Don’t forget essentials like bandages, ointments, creams, alcohol wipes, and anything else that can help with minor injuries or health issues.

Find Shelter

Assumingly you have a home to go to, but if not, you should head for the best shelter available. Given the apocalyptic circumstances, it’s best to find somewhere with warmth and supplies. This way you’re protected from outside elements, like the weather and wildlife. Homes, stores, and even vehicles can be good sources of shelter. No matter what, pick somewhere you feel secure and safe.

Learn Some Basic Skills

Oncoming apocalyptic turmoil is the perfect time to practice your life-saving skills. This includes hunting, fishing, gardening, scavenging, and even lockpicking. After all, you don’t want to be locked out of your house and not have access to your personal belongings. You should also know basic survival skills such as fire-starting, cooking, and setting up shelter if you don’t have one. Take the free time to become an expert in these skills so that you’re fully prepared for whatever looming threat awaits you.
