• Volunteer sign-ups now available for 2024.

With patron numbers doubling  during the winter months, the needs of the food pantries in Star Valley go up as well, but will continue well-into the new year.

Sierra Mitchell with the Afton Food Pantry says, “We want everybody to be able to sit down and enjoy a holiday meal with those that they love, so we are very grateful for the donations that come that make that happen.

“We’ve had some really gracious donors.” This includes all of the events that are held throughout the valley to help stockpile the food banks and help them buy what the pantries need the most.

For the Afton Food Pantry, there are many items that they need that are not donated often. They use monetary donations for those items, including honey, spices, baking supplies and cooking oil.

Last year, the pantry saw high patron numbers, but lacked the required volunteers to keep pantry doors open. “We start loosing volunteers after the holidays”, continues Mitchell “And we want people to feel the Christmas spirit all-year round… Hunger does not stop just because the Afton Food Pantry has to shut its doors.”

Sign-ups to volunteer for 2023 are now available on the Afton Food Pantry website: aftonfoodpantry.com/get-involved. Group slots fill the quickest, but every volunteer slot is important, even if a person or family can volunteer once.
