The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated 20,000 pounds of food — worth roughly $22,000, or 17,000 meals — to Feed More in Richmond, Virginia, September 29, 2017.
The donation will help feed the hungry this fall and winter.
The food delivery coincided with Virginia first lady Dorothy McAuliffe’s Day of Action. She and her husband, Gov. Terry McAuliffe, attended the event.
“We know that hunger is a problem,” the first lady told one reporter. “It’s Hunger Action Month, and so this is our way in the Commonwealth of Virginia of making sure we’re raising awareness, getting the word out and also thinking together with partnerships.”
The first lady and her husband thanked local Church leaders for the contribution. The Church will make another 20,000-pound food donation in October.
