Most small towns in America seam to have their own unique festival or event. For Yellville, Arkansas, a small town with 1,204 people, that event is the annual Turkey Drop. The event includes parades and festivals, but also live turkeys being dropped from a low flying plane. The turkeys are then chased by festival goers who try to capture them.
The Federal Aviation Administration recently announced that they will check to see if any laws or regulations are broken when the turkeys are dropped from the air. The FAA says they have not intervened in previous years because the birds are not considered projectiles.
Animal rights activist are upset about the live turkeys being dropped out of the planes. According to reports, a formal complaint has been filed with the local sheriff’s office.
