The Fall season came to an end for the SVHS sports teams over the weekend as fans may have been wishing they could push the reset button.
Volleyball
After entering the 3A state tournament with a bit of momentum at (20-10) for the season and a second-place finish at the 3A West Regional tournament, the Lady Braves ran into a tough blocking Worland team who swept Star Valley (23-25, 19-25 & 17-25).
The loss dropped the Lady Braves into the consolation bracket where they faced off against a familiar foe in Mountain View. Despite defeating the Buffalos multiple times during the regular season, Star Valley could not find their rhythm as Mountain View eliminated them (13-25, 13-25, 25-23 & 21-25).
The 3A East dominated the tournament and eventually it was the Douglas Bearcats who won the title in five games over the Rawlins Outlaws.
The volleyball team will be transitioning into the 4A classification next season with all but two seniors eligible to return.
Football
Riding a 16-game winning streak, things seemed to be going well for the Braves as they led the visiting Cody Broncs 14-0 late in the first half. The Broncs capitalized on a big play just before the half to cut the lead to 14-6 at the intermission. This was less of a singularity and more of a trend as the Broncs came out and scored again to start the third quarter. After dominating the first half with four forced turnovers, the Braves could not keep possession of the ball in the second half and the Broncs outscored Star Valley 25-7 to stun the top-rated squad in 3A and earn a trip to the state championship game against Torrington.
The Braves finished the season at 10-1 but will miss out on attempting the championship three-peat.
The Winter sports season begins practice on November 27.
