Local radio in the running for top broadcasting awards in the state

The Wyoming Association of Broadcasters has released finalists for top radio awards.

KRSV has earned four finalist positions in the categories of station promo, best use of digital media, best radio show and best local news talk.

“There are probably somewhere between 12 and 15 awards categories,” said Duke Dance of SVI Media. “We submit our own content, audio segments, and they are judged by a third party, independent group. This year the judging for the Wyoming Association of Broadcasters was done by the Montana Association of Broadcasters.”

First and second placings will be presented by the Wyoming Association of Broadcasters during the June 9 WAB Conference in Sheridan.

“We have to wait until June 9 to know if we finished in first or second place,” said Dance. “Right now all we know is that we are finalists in those four categories.”

Duke Dance interviews Commissioner Jerry Harmon during the Weekday Wake-up on SVI Radio.

According to Dance, winning awards for radio broadcasting is nice.

“Awards like this validate our efforts,” he said. “We work hard to make sure that we are producing quality radio for Star Valley and its businesses. We like being in radio. It’s a lot of fun. And, its fun to see that our peers across the region recognize that we are doing a good job and putting out a great product.”

According to Dance, KRSV 1210 AM and 98.7 FM enjoy tremendous community support. The Week-Day Wakeup is a part of people’s live in Star Valley.

“We appreciate that people tell us what they enjoy about the show and that they take part in the text-in-topic and call in for Feelin’ It Friday and things like that,” he said. “Listeners are what makes what we do worth the time and effort that goes into it. The people here in Star Valley have been absolutely great in showing their support and being a part of what we do each week. That really makes a difference.”
