Star Valley Track & Field
The two-time defending 3A champs may be missing some big pieces from the last two title runs, but that hasn’t stopped the program from putting up some intriguing and record-breaking performances. A few SVHS runners were in Provo at the BYU Invite where Wes Kallgren broke the school’s 3200 meter record with a time of 9:21.55. It broke Nic Demler’s previous mark of 9:23.66 set in 2015 and is only three-tenths of a second off the Wyoming record.
It was a good day for the locals as Shaelee Angell, Brooke Kallgren, Emmy Heywood and Jacie Angell all ran under six minutes in the 1600 meter. Jesse Loveland, Trevor Clark, Peter Visser and Kallgren all went under five minutes in the same event.
Wyatt Peck broke his own 800 meter mark with a 1:51.27, one of the fastest in the nation the year. Peck also broke one of the oldest records at SVHS as he took down the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.91 seconds. The previous record of 49.70 was set in 1987 by Matt Hansen.
Bryant Erickson won the pole vault event in Jackson with a height of 12’ 7” and teammate Haydn Neilsen also cleared 12 feet and prequalified for state.
