It was a weekend revolving around the number three. After a 33-year title drought the Braves Track & Field team has now completed their third consecutive Wyoming 3A team title.
Many questioned the team’s ability to do so but the final total was not close as the Braves entered Day 3 with a 50-point cushion and coasted to a 57-point victory by the time the meet came to a close on Saturday afternoon at a rainy Harry Geldein Stadium at Kelly Walsh High School.
Star Valley finished with 140.0 team points. Mountain View was runner-up with 83.0 and Cody was third with 71.0
The team picked up chunks of points in the sprints and two more event championships as the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Wyatt Peck, Alias Erickson, Matt Hunting & Dustin Brown set a new school record. Wesley Kallgren also wrapped up his career with a memorable weekend by winning the 1600 meter event. He also won the 3200 and was part of the 4 x 800 titles as well.
The Lady Braves had just 11 members at the state meet but still managed to score 80.0 points, good enough to tie Riverton for the runner-up trophy. The Cody Fillies won the team title with 108.5 points.
Janice Hall wrapped up her storied SVHS career with third place finishes in both the 100 and 200 meter events and a state championship in the 300 meter hurdles.
