TEXT-IN RESPONSES: Was it right for ABC to cancel “Roseanne” following racist tweet?

A single tweet is responsible for the cancellation of a reboot of “Roseanne.”  The show’s star Roseanne Barr says she made the controversial tweet while on Ambien.

The racist tweet got her show cancelled by ABC Tuesday.  It was a tweet about former Obama White House adviser Valerie Jarrett that got her canned.

Barr took to Twitter after the cancellation to apologize and told people not to defend her.  She blamed the sleep aid and the late hour for the lack of judgment and said it was a mistake she wishes she hadn’t made.

During the Weekday Wake-up on SVI Radio (Swift 98.7 FM and Black Mountain Country 1210 AM) Duke & Dahl asked listeners if they agreed with ABC’s decision to cancel the show or if they though the network overreacted.  Below are the listener responses.

Agree with ABC’s Decision

“ABC is a private company and should be able to have whatever speech standards it wants.”

“I think it is validated we need more reactions to things like that in the world to help stop the world from being so nasty, you reap what you sow…”

“Glad she was cancelled even though I did not watch her! Time we hold people accountable for their actions and words!”

“We no longer live in a world of three channels. Plenty of great TV out there without someone who can’t appreciate the opportunity.”

Disagree with ABC’s Decision

No not right to cancel.”

“What happened to freedom of speech? No way should they cancel Roseanne!!”

“I think it was a little drastic to cancel the show and the reruns. Not a fan of Roseanne but don’t think this would have happened if this was against a person who held the same position in the current administration.”

“Bill Maher is worse than Roseanne ever was.”
