Colleen Sue Brown Perkins, daughter of Justice C Stuart Brown and Jane Hurst Brown, formerly of Star Valley and Kemmerer, Wyoming, passed away on June 1, 2018 at the home of her daughter. She was born on October 11, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is the daughter of Charles Stuart and Jane Hurst Brown. She passed away on June 1, 2018 in Cedar Hill, Texas, in the loving arms of her daughter and son-in-law. She was 68 years old. Colleen attended schools in Afton and Kemmerer, graduated from Kemmerer (Wyoming) High School and went on to attend LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah; El Camino College in Torrance, California, and Brookhaven College in Farmer’s Branch, Texas. She studied business and design. She married Rickey Lee Perkins in 1971. They divorced in 2001. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served in many callings, including counselor in both the Relief Society and Primary organizations and teacher in Sunday School. She was a gifted artist and loved to paint, draw and create clever crafts. She loved studying the gospel, reading and viewing history stories and all animals, especially cats. In the family, Colleen was known for her quick wit and her devotion to family members. She had a special bond with her brother Jim, who was just 18 months older. As children they were inseparable. She was challenged with dyslexia. Reading was difficult for her, but she persisted and supplemented her learning with music, books on tape, computer programs and documentary movies. She particularly enjoyed learning about gospel doctrine, history and animals. She was an avid viewer of Jeopardy and usually beat the contestants to the answers. In her later years, she became ill and suffered for 28 years with several debilitating autoimmune diseases but continued her passion for learning even when she became bedridden. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Hawkins (Brett); her grandchildren, Makayla (fiancé Ethan Anderson) and Parker Grody, all of Cedar Hill; her mother, Jane Hurst Brown, Cheyenne, Wyoming; two brothers, Dr. James Brown (Barbara), University Park, Washington, and Robert Brown (Cynthia), Saratoga Springs, Utah; four sisters, Julia Gibson, Dallas, Texas; Patricia Wilkinson (Dave), Cheyenne, Wyoming; Helen Curry (Tim), Vancouver, Washington, and Virginia Evans (John), Valle Vista, California; her brother-in-law, Paul Christensen, Logan, Utah; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends across the country. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Stuart Brown; her sister, Ann Christensen; two brothers, Charles and Hugh Brown, and her brother-in-law, Dan Gibson. She had a fond memory of her pets, both living and gone, including Sugar, Candy, Wonder, Bubba, Slick and Sivad, all cats, and August, her dog. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 23, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1017 Big Stone Gap Rd, Duncanville, TX 75137. Her remains will be interred at the Fairview, Wyoming, Cemetery at a later date. Flowers and other memorials are welcome, or you may donate to your favorite charity in her name.
Eddy Dwight Kennington, age 72, of Clovis, California entered into rest on Friday June 1, 2018. Eddy was born May 24, 1946 in Afton, Wyoming. Eddy is survived by his wife, Valerie Kennington; daughter Laieue J. Drysdale; son-in-law George Drysdale; son Neal J. Kennington; daughter-in-law Candice Kennington; daughter Andrea D. Knudsen; son-in-law Mark Knudsen; son Bradley C. Kennington; daughter-in-law Morgan Kennington; brother Garland Kennington, sister Janeal Levorsen, sister Anis Brinkerhoff, sister Barbara Kennington and brother Jody Kennington. Eddy will also be lovingly remembered by his 12 grandchildren. Funeral Services for Eddy were held Friday, June 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1880 Gettysburg Avenue, Clovis, California 93611. Interment was Monday, June 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Afton Cemetery, Madison Street, Afton, Wyoming 83110.
With sadness we announce the passing of Ronald L. Wooden on June 6, 2018. Ron was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Henry and Lavonna Wooden. He grew up in Star Valley, graduating from Star Valley High School. Ron went on to receive his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music Education from Utah State University where he met Kay Gaddie. They were married on September 30, 1960 in Logan, Utah. Ron went on to receive his Ph.D. from the University of Utah. Ron taught music at Cedar City High School and Ogden High School before joining the faculty of Weber State College. While at Weber State, Ron was director of the Opera/Theater program and directed over thirty musicals. He directed the Weber State Chorale and the vocal jazz ensemble, Choralition. He took his choirs on tours throughout Europe and the United Kingdom and performed at numerous American Choral Director Association conventions. Ron also served as Chair of the Music and Performing Arts departments, and served on and headed many other program and planning committees. In addition to all his contributions to Weber State, Ron was also active in the support and promotion of the performing arts in Utah serving as the Board of Director for the Ogden Symphony/Ballet West Association and board member of Utah Symphony/Ballet West Association. He also served as a member for the Utah Arts Council, the Ogden Arts Commission, and the Ogden Downtown Egyptian Theater/Conference Center Steering and Technical Committee. He served as a consultant on the reconstruction of the Val Browning Center for the Performing Arts. In addition, he organized and managed state and regional music clinics, all-state festivals and regional conferences for Utah Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association. Ron was also active as a bass-baritone soloist and jazz saxophonist. Ron and his wife had a passion for boating and fishing and were members of the Ogden Pineview Yacht Club. They took their family on many memorable trips to Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge, Jackson Lake and Bear Lake. In the winter, they enjoyed cross-country skiing in the North Fork area of Ogden Valley. Ron is survived by his sons, Michael (Theresa), and Bradley, his grandchildren (Dylan, Catharina, Brianna, Gregory, Annaka, and Elizabeth) and his brothers Mel, Ralph, and Brent. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Kay and his brother Donn. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15 at 2 p.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. The family will be available for visitation in the hour prior to the service. Graveside service and reception to follow.
