Firefighter injured battling Fire Trail Fire near Alpine

ALPINE, Wyo., August 14, 2018 – A firefighter was injured Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 14, by a snag while working on the Fire Trail Fire in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The firefighter was immobilized before crew-members moved him from the fire line to an identified helicopter landing spot. He was then transported from the helispot by Teton Interagency helicopter to Alpine Airport, where he was transferred by Air Idaho Rescue to Idaho Falls. The patient was evaluated by medical staff at the hospital and was released this evening.

“The crews have done key work in suppressing the fire,” the Southern and Western Wyoming incident management team said in a Tuesday afternoon statement. “Our thoughts go out to the firefighter and we thank the crew and others for their help in transferring the patient to hospital care.”

The Fire Trail Fire is burning about five miles south of Alpine, WY and started on Saturday, August 11. It is currently 30 acres in size, a reduction from earlier reports due to more accurate mapping. Forest Road #10001 and Forest Trail #3183 remain closed for the safety of fire personnel and the public.
