Katie Jensen

Katie Lauretta Jensen was born May 10, 1976 in Afton to Jeff Jensen and Barbara Jensen Schwab. She was welcomed by two older brothers, Chance and K.C. She was born with a congenital heart defect. Like her brother Chance, she was considered a “blue” baby. After a week she was taken to Primary Children’s Hospital. There they ran many tests and they felt it would have been too risky to do surgery at that point. For the next four years, her brothers doted on her and took care of her the best they could. She was a happy little girl and was always smiling. At the age of four she had open heart surgery. It was then that she started to talk and walk, she never really stopped after that. When she was six years old, along came her baby sister, Ellie, which was when Katie felt that it was her time to start being a mother to Ellie. This is when her motherly instinct started. She loved her brothers and sisters and always tried to look out for them no matter the age. Because of her delays, she had a difficult time in school, but she never gave up and was determined to graduate. In 1995 she was able to walk across that stage and this was a very proud moment in her life. Katie always took care of her brother Chance, even taking classes to be his caregiver. She always said he was her soul mate. So when he passed away in 1997 a part of Katie died as well. She missed him everyday and this may have been the start of her quirks. Katie enjoyed and almost needed to take care of others, she never worried about herself. Katie and Ellie always lived together and helped eachother. They were the best married couple in Afton. On April 19, 2003 her brothers K.C. and Steve were killed in a car acciden. Katie and Ellie lost two brothers that night. She decided to step up her game to help take care of Ellie and K.C. and Steve’s kids.  Katie worked various jobs throughout her life and always lived in Afton, but when her mom Barbara’s sister Francie started her fight with cancer, Katie moved back home to help take care of her. Katie adored all her nieces and nephews and they adored her. She was with her sister Ellie’s kids every single day. She was the best aunt anyone could ask for, she would play for hours and loved every minute of it. She loved to laugh and you could hear it a mile away. More than anything in her life, Katie loved the children. Katie over the years helped her mom and step dad Joe through various illnesses. She would do whatever was needed. She became Joe’s right hand man and loved to help him outside doing various projects. Two years ago she lost her fourth brother Seth Jensen. By this time her heart just couldn’t take much more. On July 30 she had a wonderful day in town with her mom and her family. She came home, put her groceries away and was headed to the trees where her family would sit everyday. She loved it out there. She came around the corner and was gone just like that. Her heart just couldn’t go anymore. Katie was the best of us all and will be greatly missed. She had a wonderful reunion waiting for her. Katie is survived by her parents Joe and Barbara Schwab and Jeff and Laurafaye Jensen, sisters Ellie Jones, Dana Ritchie (Wid), Dixie Schwab, Jean Suter (Kolton), brothers Mike Schwab (Sue), Brian Schwab (Tara), Scott Schwab (Melissa), Ryan Potter, Jay Young and Dusty Young. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Chance Jensen, K.C. Jensen, Steve Schwab and Seth Jensen, and her aunt Francie to whom she cared for.
