On August 16, 2018 a fatal crash occurred at milepost 195 on US 18 near Lusk, Wyoming. At 10:32 p.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the area for a two-vehicle collision.
A 2014 Toyota Yaris was traveling northbound on US-85. A 2010 Freightliner pulling a set of double trailers was turning south onto US-85 from US-18 when the Toyota collided with the rear trailer of the combination unit. All of the occupants of the Yaris were injured and transported to various hospitals. The rear passenger of the Yaris, which was unrestrained, sustained serious injuries and died at Weston County Health Services hospital. Speed on the behalf of the driver of the Toyota and failure to yield on the behalf of the driver of the Freightliner are being investigated as possible contributing factors to the crash.
The passenger of the Toyota has been identified as 57-year-old Burr Ridge, Illinois resident Juzer Chinwalla.
This is the 66th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2018 compared to 95 in 2017, 74 in 2016, and 94 in 2015 to date.
