Construction to begin on portion of Greys River Road destroyed by Porcupine Slide
ALPINE, Wyo., August 20, 2018 –The Bridger-Teton National Forest in conjunction with The Central Federal Highways has awarded a construction contract to rebuild the portion of the Greys River Road which was obliterated in the February 2018 Porcupine Landslide. Equipment will be moved into the area today and work will begin around August 20, 2018. There will be delays and temporary closures throughout the project as work gets underway. While timelines are difficult to establish until work begins, it is expected to continue at least until snowfall prevents effective construction. The contractor is AAA Building Services Inc. from Powell, Wyoming.
Recreationists along the Greys River Road, beginning approximately 17-miles from Alpine, Wyoming, will encounter reduced road speeds and flaggers throughout the construction area. Workers will allow traffic through as possible. The funding for the reconstruction was awarded through Central Federal Highways as Environmental Relief for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) funding, in the amount of $3.2 million dollars. “Reconstruction on the Porcupine Landslide is our first priority, however restoring access through the Blind Bull Landslide is very important to us and we are considering the possibilities of commencing work on the Blind Bull Landslide in congruence with the reconstruction work taking place on the Porcupine Landside,” said Greys River District Ranger Justin Laycock. The Blind Bull landslide has been awarded $1 million in ERFO funds for that project.
