Here’s a look at how the teams from Western Wyoming and Eastern Idaho fared over the weekend.
Football
• Kemmerer Rangers (3-3) – It was a tough Homecoming game for the Rangers as they were routed by the #2 Glenrock Herders 49-0. With two games to go, there is plenty to play for as Kemmerer is still in the playoff chase with a game at defending champ Mountain View this Friday and a long road trip to Lovell.
• Cokeville Panthers (6-0) – The Panthers had no trouble with Rocky Mountain in a 48-0 blowout on Friday afternoon. Cokeville will be the beneficiary of another win this week as they collect a 2-0 forfeit win over Saratoga who did not have the numbers to compete this season. Cokeville is in the playoffs and will play for the 1A West top seed on October 19 at Wind River.
• Star Valley Braves (5-2) – The #3 Braves jumped out to a 14-0 lead over the #2 Jackson Broncs and never trailed as they won the 81st annual Fall Brawl 32-14. The win qualified the Braves for the playoffs and they can wrap up the 3A West top seed this week with a win over visiting Cody combined with a Jackson win over Evanston.
• Pinedale Wranglers (2-3) – A tough hard-fought Sublette County War went to the Big Piney Punchers by a 12-6 score. As it sits, the Wranglers are not out of the playoffs but cannot afford any more losses in a hotly contested 2A West Conference. It will not be easy with long road trips to Lovell and Wheatland on the schedule.
• Bear Lake Bears (1-6) – In the closest to a win since an opening day victory over Rich Couty, Utah, the Bears battled Malad on the road but came up short in a 26-20 score. BLHS will wrap their season with a home game against West Side.
Volleyball
• Star Valley Lady Braves (20-5) – After a tough 3-1 loss to top-rated Kelly Walsh, the Lady Braves bounced back with a 3-0 sweep over visiting Rock Springs on Saturday. Star Valley will be in Evanston on Tuesday, October 9, and then host Jackson this Thursday, October 11 in a match broadcast by SVI.
• Kemmerer Rangers (4-11) – It was a successful Homecoming weekend for the volleyball team as they swept Manila (UT) 3-0 on Thursday. KHS will host Big Piney on Tuesday, October 9 before traveling for a pair of road matches at Wind River and Shoshoni this weekend.
• Cokeville Panthers (17-9) – The Panthers were off this past weekend but will have a full slate of matches this week. They host Little Snake River on Friday and then face off against both Saratoga and Encampment on Saturday.
• Bear Lake Bears – The Bears were swept by the Malad Dragons 3-0 on Thursday, October 3.
• Pinedale Wranglers (12-5) – The Wranglers were part of the 3A West Conference Duals in Lander over the weekend where they faced off against Powell, Lovell, Lander and Worland. Results from the event have not yet been reported.
Cross-Country
The Braves and Lady Braves traveled to Jackson for a Twilight Duel against the Broncs. The Lady Broncs won with a perfect score, pushing the first five runners across the finish line. The Broncs edged the Braves by just four points. The two squads will see each other twice more in the next two weeks with the 3A West Regionals taking place in Powell this Friday and the 3A State Championships in Sheridan the week after that.
