A judge in San Francisco is ruling that migrants who enter the U.S. illegally from Mexico will be able to seek asylum. The U.S. district judge on Monday issued a temporary restraining order barring the Trump administration from refusing asylum claims from people crossing the southern border illegally. The order came down from the administration on November 9th in apparent response to a caravan of migrants from Central America.
This morning during the Weekday Wake-up, Duke & Dahl asked listeners if they agreed with Judge or with President Trump. Should refugees seeking asylum in the U.S., specifically this migrant caravan, be required to enter the U.S. through official points of entry, or should that not be a requirement?
Here are the listener’s responses
Agree with Pres. Trump
“They should have to go through the correct channels. If Americans were in their shoes, we would have to do the same thing (coming in legally) or pay the price of being an illegal immigrant, sometimes meaning imprisonment or worse.”
“My wife is from Mexico and we had to transmit her visa at an official government office or port. Why shouldn’t they? I stand with President Trump!”
“I support president trump!!! What needs to be done is put the wall around California border and let them take care of them.”
“Let them come the way they should; legally.”
“Yes I agree with Trump look at the flags they are carrying it’s an invasion.”
“Keep them out! Send them to Canada.”
“Three thousand! That’s a small army- go home and take back your own country!”
“It seems ridiculous to me that there are those in authority who would rule AGAINST the concept of order and law. This is why Trump was elected in the first place. People are tired of nonsensical policy”
“Common sense says President is right on this one. No surprise from our progressive judicial system.”
“I think they should be held outside the borders. They shouldn’t get in and I don’t think they should be able to get get asylum unless they come into Port of Entry. That is way I look at it.”
Agree with Judge
“No you shouldn’t. If you’re seeking asylum, the sooner you get it the better. Imagine if us Americans were in their shoes, and government officials of an allying country wouldn’t help you. We have bigger problems to worry about than preventing innocent people from having safety.”
