Two South Lincoln County residents were winners of a fundraising raffle by American Legion Post 55 in Kemmerer.   

Clyde Clark, a veteran himself, won the gun safe.   

Crystal Grimes, a Chevron station employee, won a portable generator.

The drawing for the two prizes took place, live, on the Weekday Wake-up program broadcast on the SPUR radio stations Friday morning.   KSVR-AM in Afton, and KMER-AM and KDWY-FM in Kemmerer.   

The gun safe was provided by Bomgaars in Diamondville, and the generator came from Carquest Auto Parts in Kemmerer.

Former state senator Stan Cooper, a member of Post 55, said about 600 tickets were sold in the raffle.   He said proceeds from the raffle go to support various local American Legion activities and events.    

These include flags and the color guard for area veterans’ funerals, flags for local parades throughout the year, meals at the Kemmerer Senior Citizens Center for veterans in need, helping homeless and low income veterans, providing flags for veterans’ gravesites at the South Lincoln and Diamondville cemeteries on Memorial Day, and the vet programs at local schools.   

Cooper reiterated that all activities and donations that the American Legion take part in are to fulfill their motto: “Continuing to Serve.”

“Even though American Legion members are no longer in the military, they continue to be in service to our country and our veterans,” Cooper said.

Cooper was not sure if American Legion Post 55 would hold a raffle again in 2019. He said that will be discussed at the Post’s next meeting early next year.
