The Kemmerer Rangers boys basketball team is still in search of their first win of the season after losing all four of their games at the inaugural Kemmerer Invitational basketball tournament this past weekend.
The Rangers were competitive on Friday, but came up short against two top-ranked class one-a teams. They fell to Cokeville by 18 points, and were beaten by 21 by Farson-Eden. The Rangers also came up short against the Evanston junior varsity on Saturday morning, losing by 20. The Rangers looked like they would be victorious on Saturday afternoon as they led Little Snake River by ten points early in the fourth quarter. But the Rattlers battled back to win the game 46 to 43. The Rattlers Randy Otte broke a 43 all tie when he sank a three point basket with 28 seconds left.
The Rangers Colter Brunski has an outstanding tournament for the Rangers as he averaged just over 20 points a game for the weekend.
The Lady Rangers won one of their four games at the Kemmerer tournament. They were routed by class one-a, top-ranked Cokeville on Friday morning. Their evening game against Rich County, Utah was close for three quarters before the Lady Rebels pulled away for a 15 point win. The Lady Rangers took a 14 point halftime lead against Tabiona, Utah on Saturday, then held on for a 36 to 30 win. The Lady Rangers led by ten points early in the fourth quarter of their final game against Little Snake River on Saturday. The Lady Rattlers, however, rallied back to tie the game at the end of regulation as two Rangers starters fouled out midway through the quarter. The Lady Rattlers scored the first six points on overtime to beat Kemmerer 48 to 45.
The Lady Rangers now have a season record of four wins and six losses. Sophomore Madelyn Gregory averaged about 15 points a game over the first three game for the Lady Rangers. She was held to just seven points in the game against Little Snake River as she was one of the players to foul out.
The Rangers and Lady Rangers now head to Pinedale this Friday evening before returning home for games against Farson-Eden on Saturday afternoon. Both games will be covered live on The Spur as well as live video coverage by SVI Media on SVI-2.
