TEXT-IN RESPONSES: Name a Struggle Today’s Kids Will Never Experience or Know

Each morning during the Weekday Wake-up on Swift 98 and The Spur, Duke & Dahl ask listeners a question to which they text in their responses.  These responses are read over the air during the morning show.

Tuesday the question was “What is a struggle today’s kids will never experience or know?”  Here are the listener responses.

“Coal furnace.”

“Learn how to balance a checkbook!”

“Record albums, eight track tapes, and cassette tapes.”

“Penny candy.”

“I was a cheerleader and when our team was playing out of town and we were covering an event at home we would run to the pay phone in the high school on breaks and call the operator and ask the star valley score and she would tell us!!!! That’s how we would keep updated…”

“The typewriter.”

“Work ethics they will never understand.”

“Looking up numbers in phone book.”

“When you had to call the operator to place a long distance phone call, and you were charged by the minute for that call. If using a pay phone calling collect, because you didn’t have enough pocket change.”

“Having an indoor bathroom, & bathing once a week!”

“I can’t believe nobody has said this yet.  NO GOOGLE.”

“Dashing to get a drink or go to the bathroom during the commercials of your favorite TV show. Running back & jumping on the couch as your show starts again and your friends yelling “it’s on, it’s on!!”

“Kids today will never have to worry about Calling their friend in the lower Valley and having it be a long distance call.”

“Shoveling snow to include the whole driveway area and sidewalks with out a snowblower when we used to get so much snow you never seen the fences.”

“They will never have to sit with a finger on the on and off button,on the tape recorder, listening to the radio to make a mix tape.”

“Doing math with only paper and a pencil.  Doing a research paper with only an encyclopedia.”

“Waiting by the radio for you favorite songs to come on so you can hit the record button on the tape deck. Making that perfect mix tape.”

“The card catalog at the library to find a certain book.”

“Rabbit ears on the tv.”

“Waiting to go to Idaho falls to school shop once a year!!!”

“Warming up leftovers without a microwave.”
