The Kemmerer Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is asking the public to review the Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for the proposed Big Dry Creek sodium lease sale.
The proposal calls for leasing 5,095 acres of sodium for trona mining in three federal lease tracts located in southwest Sweetwater County, approximately 15 miles southwest of Green River, in the BLM-managed Known Sodium Leasing Area.
According to information released by the BLM, trona is a sodium mineral used to “manufacture a wide range of products, from glass and detergents to paper and textiles.”
Comments on the proposed lease sale will be accepted through March 15, 2019.
