The Pinedale Wranglers are looking for a new head football coach with the announced resignation of Mitch Espeland.
In three seasons Espeland went (10-15) overall for the Wranglers, advancing to the post-season in his first campaign. PHS went (3-5) in the Fall of 2018 with wins over Lyman, Greybull and Lovell.
The resignation was first reported by Wyoming-Football.com.
PHS Activities Director, Jake Rich responded to the situation in a phone interview with SVI. “[We’re] super disappointed to lose him,” he said. “He was a great asset to the football team and to the high school as well. He was willing to help out with a variety of things. A super-good guy. We are excited for his future.”
According to Rich, the family will be moving to Cody where Espeland and his wife will both be employed within the school district. Rich said Pinedale was just not able to offer the same opportunity. Espeland is expected to teach Social Studies.
Rich stated that the position is currently open and that interviews for the job are anticipated to take place between April 23-27.
“I think we have good pool of applicants which includes some local guys and a few out of town folks,” he added. “Hopefully we find the right guy.”
