The Greys River Collaborative is a group of community and government representatives from the Star Valley area that have come together to work with the Forest Service on projects specific to the Bridger-Teton National Forest.
In the past two years the collaborative has developed a small timber sale in the aged timber stands of the upper Greys River.
Greys River District Ranger Justin Laycock, said the 250-acre Tri-Basin sale will be offered at the end of the summer and crews are prepared to mark and map the area in July, once the snow is melted.
“This is really a good project,” Laycock said in an interview with SVI Media. “We’ll get a lot of road work done while accessing the timber and hauling it off the mountain.”

The Greys River Collaborative is also working on a future project that will bring improvements to Grover Park area.
The group is considering trail improvements that will address both motorized and non-motorized use.
In addition, campground improvements will include sites with vault toilets.
“There’s a lot of potential in the Grover Park area,” explained Laycock. “We are planning a [collaborative] field trip in July and we will also be reaching out to the communities for input.”
• Greys River projects wrapping up

A few construction projects are finishing up in Greys River that are expected to be completed as early as this summer.
Justin Laycock, District Ranger of the Greys River told SVI News about one that will be finished soon.
“It’s called the ‘Smiths Fork Parking area,’” Laycock said. “It’s a new parking area just off of highway 89 on the Smiths Fork.”
This parking area will be used for both winter and summer seasons. The official opening date is in the summer of 2019.
“This is a project that we have been wanting to do for a number of years,” Laycock said. “Finally all of the pieces have come together to be able to make this project happen.”
Laycock mentioned some of the partners that helped the project get completed were Smoky Canyon Mine, Lincoln County, Star Valley Ridge Riders and Wyoming State Trails.
Other projects include another vault toilet located in the Little Greys in the Steer Creek area and the Blind Bull Landslide.
“The work that we have done last year turned out really nice,” Laycock says. “However, with the spring runoff and wet soils, that landslide has continued to move and impacted the work that we did on the road.”
Laycock says The road is closed about two miles up the road at the gate. Currently they are assessing the amount of work that needs to be done.
