It is not an expansion for Lavell Edwards Stadium, but there will be some upgrades to the stadium for the upcoming BYU Football season.
According to the school all four stadium stands will be connected at the mezzanine level. This will allow fans to walk between the stands without having to walk to the ground level.
It will also add more women’s, men’s, and family-friendly bathrooms on the north and south mezzanine levels.
It is expected to be done next month before the opening game against the University of Utah. Kick-off is set for 8:15 PM on August 29th.
Lopini Katoa preseason finalist for Doak Walker Award
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum listed BYU running back Lopini Katoa as a preseason candidate for the 2019 Doak Walker award.
The accolade goes to the nation’s top running back and is named after SMU’s three-time All American running back Doak Walker.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum votes on the award with nominations coming from athletic departments. The board will name 10 finalists in November. Eventually the selection committee will vote and announce three finalists before officially giving out the award in December.
Last season Katoa rushed for 423 yards on 76 carries and ran for nine touchdowns as well in his freshman season.
He will be competing for the starting running back spot for the Cougars with graduate transfer Ty’Son Williams from South Carolina.
