BYU QB Zach Wilson named to 2019 CFPA National Performer of the Year preseason watch list

The College Football Performance Award has listed BYU Football quarterback Zach Wilson to its preseason watch list for the 2019 National Performer of the Year award.

Wilson is coming off his freshman year where he started seven games to become the youngest true freshman starter in the school’s history. Last season he set the BYU record for freshman pass efficiency (157.23), completing 120 of 182 passes for 1,578 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He led BYU to a win in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl to end last season. He threw a perfect 18-of-18 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns.

Fall Camp began Wednesday

The players reported in on Tuesday and the team had its first full day of camp on Wednesday.

The Cougars won three out of its last four games to end the year last season and is looking to build on their strong finish.

BYU begins its season hosting the University of Utah at Lavell Edwards Stadium in the rivalry game August 29th. Kick-off is set for 8:15 and will be televised on ESPN.

The Cougars will be looking to end its losing streak to the Utes. Utah has gotten the last eight matchups. BYU last won in 2009 26-23 in the famous “George is still running” game. Cougar quarterback Max Hall completed a 25 yard touchdown pass to tight end Andrew George in overtime for the win.

It is also the same game Hall had his rant about how much he hated the Utah Football program and fans.
