A pair of avalanches closed both lanes on U.S. 89/26 between Alpine and Hoback Junction through the Snake River Canyon on Thursday evening.
According to the Wyoming Department of Transportation Twitter Northwest account this took place at 8:20 p.m. with no estimated time of re-opening.
***Update*** The canyon opened for a short time in the early afternoon hours of Friday February 7, but conditions forced crews to close down the highway again.
**Update** Crews were hoping to have the canyon open by 4 a.m. Friday morning but instead re-assessed the situation at 6 a.m. on Friday, February 7.
