The Wyoming High School Activities Association announced this afternoon that they will not reschedule the 3A/4A state basketball tournament.  The tournament was scheduled to happen this weekend but was canceled due to concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

In addition, the WHSAA Board of Directors, representing the 72 member schools in Wyoming, issued a statement saying that “In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the WHSAA has suspended all extracurricular activities statewide, beginning Monday, March 16th through at least March 28, 2020, with schools having the option to extend the timeline should they choose.”

The statement went on to read that “The 3A/4A State Basketball Tournament will not take place this year. We understand the tremendous disappointment this decision is for our student athletes, especially our seniors, but please realize that we must be a responsible state organization and that our highest priority is ensuring the safety of our students, schools and communities.”

WHSAA said that spring sport practices will be allowed at the discretion of each school district.

Lincoln County School District #2 is continuing to work with local health officials to make decisions regarding spring sports practices and events in the district.  No decisions have been announced by the district in regards to practices or other spring events.  Rob Erickson, Star Valley High School AD, will join Duke Dance on SVI Radio (Swift 98.7 FM & The Spur 1210 AM) during the Weekday Wake-up on Monday morning with further information.
