◆ Drive-thru pantry pick-up scheduled for next three weeks.
The Afton Food Pantry is changing up its weekly routine in an effort to help patrons and volunteers reduce their COVID-19 risk.
Beginning this Thursday, March 19 the Food Pantry will shift to drive-through service for all patrons. The drive-through service is planned for the next three weeks.
“We are asking all patrons in need of food assistance to please pull around the back of the pantry and wait inside of your vehicles,” said Sierra Mitchell of the Afton Food Pantry. “Please do not gather outside of the building. We will then bring groceries directly to your car.”
According to Mitchell, the goal of the drive-through service is to continue to meet the community’s need while following public health guidelines in relation to the coronavirus risk.
“Our goal is to protect both patrons and volunteers but also the many elderly patrons that can be affected by this virus,” she said. “The Pantry is here to serve anyone that is in need. We know the next few weeks could be very difficult. Just know the Pantry is here to help.”
According to Mitchell, the Afton Food Pantry is preparing for an increased need for food items in the Star Valley Community.
“Many people have asked how to help us during this time,” she said. “Donations of food, fresh eggs, ect., would be beneficial but most important will be monetary donations to restock what we give out during the next few weeks.”
The drive-through service at the Afton Food Pantry will be available Thursdays from 5-7 p.m.
