The J.R. Simplot Company has applied for mining permits relating to phosphate extraction in the Dairy Syncline Phosphate Leases in southeastern Caribou County, Idaho.
The Dairy Syncline Phosphate Mine project calls for open pit extraction techniques. The project includes pit excavation, overburnden piles, road construction and pipeline construction.
The project calls for starting construction in the summer/fall of 2020. The requested permit would allow for 10 years of mining operations.
The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments for the general public; federal, state and local agencies and officials relating to the proposed project.
