Kemmerer High School will still honor its seniors with a special graduation ceremony on Saturday at 1 P.M.
School principal, Shawn Rogers, says they want to do something special to honor the students while also following health guidelines amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s definitely been challenging,” Rogers said. “There’s a lot of planning that’s gone into place.”
He says with things slowly opening back up and different rules constantly adjusted, it was difficult to plan a program with many aspects to it.
However, he says the plan is to have a parade of vehicles the students will be in. The graduates will then be able to walk across the stands of the football field and they will hand them their diplomas.

“It will be unique,” Rogers said. “But I think it will be pretty cool.”
He says they will line up the students in the cars in the school parking lot at 12:45 P.M. At 1:00 the speeches, welcomes, etc. will begin. After that bios will be read that were written by the seniors and “once that starts, the parade will start.”
“Our local law enforcement, fire department, EMS, those type of people are going to participate in the parade,” Rogers said. “Take the graduates through town and they’ll end up down at the football field.”
After that he says they’re hoping to be able to place them on the track about 10 meters apart after they get their diplomas.
“So the whole class will actually be able to be out on the track together,” Rogers said.
This way they follow the guidelines, but then the graduates will be able to change their tassels and throw their hat in the air.
“I think if we can pull it off, it will be pretty cool,” Rogers said. “But we’re still working out the logistics.”
He believes the seniors can learn something from this current situation the world is in as well.
“Life always going to throw speed bumps at you, no matter what scale they’re on,” Rogers said. “You just got to pull yourself up by your boot straps and keep moving forward. If you work hard, good things will happen.”
He says the Health Department has been great to work with. He understands they are probably getting a lot of requests as businesses and other places look to their guidance to reopen. He also thanked everybody that is contributing to make this as special of an event as possible for the graduating class.
