Gifts of Grace to hold a “virtual run” fundraiser

The Gifts of Grace organization, a nonprofit business fighting against human trafficking, says it will hold a virtual run fundraiser for the next week or so.

With a lot of races or fundraiser races canceled due to COVID-19, the group came up with the idea of a virtual run. There are different types of events people can pay to join and it will all be done on your own time.

The Kid Fun Run is 25 miles and is $5 to join. Others can also join in a 5K which is $10 or a half marathon which is $20. Cinthya Freeze from Gifts of Grace says no need to stress if you can’t get it done all in one day.

“Participants have from…May 22nd to June 5th,” Freeze said. “Walk, hike, or run the distance whatever they choose.”

She does point out that you do not need to run to donate. You can join though on their site and click donate now. She says just comment in the section allowed that the donation was for the virtual run.

Freeze says every donation matters because it goes to rescuing as many children who are victims of human trafficking. Not only getting them away from the situation, but giving them the tools necessary to try and recover. She says recently they were able to save a 13-year-old girl from the Dominican Republic.

“(She) was forced into marriage,” Freeze said. “Her trafficker would beat her and rape her and threaten her with her five-month-old son. But now she’s safe and both her and her son are in an after care home.”

Freeze says this is all in part because of the help they are able to get from the public.
