On the morning of Monday June 29, Star Valley Senior Peter Visser has been named the Wyoming Gatorade Track & Field Athlete of the year.
It is the third Gatorade award for Visser who will be looking to win his third individual cross-country state championship this upcoming October. Visser led his team dubbed the “Repo Men” last Fall as Star Valley regained the Wyoming 3A title in cross-country.
Visser won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter races and was part of the 4 x 800 meter championship in the 2020 Wyoming State Indoor Championships in Gillette prior to the COVID-19 shutdown, leading the Braves to a State Runner-up finish.
He was the reigning Wyoming state champ in the 4A 3200 meter in the Outdoor Track & Field season and had top-3 finishes in the 4A Class in both the 1600 and 800 as a sophomore in 2019. Visser’s junior season was not run this past Spring due to COVID-19 but he still gathered the hardware. He is Wyoming’s top prep distance runner entering the 2020-21 school year and is receiving interest from several different colleges and universities.
The Braves Cross-Country team has won seven of the last eight Wyoming 3A State Titles.
