The following is a letter sent to residents of the Town of Star Valley Ranch:
Dear Star Valley Ranch Residents,
We wanted to make you all aware that there is a subadult black bear that has been getting into several garbage cans around the neighborhood. When bears receive human foods (garbage, bird seed, pet food, etc.) they can become increasingly bold around people, also known as habituated. This poses a human safety risk. Wyoming Game and Fish is currently trying to catch and relocate this bear so that things do not escalate further, but we need your help. We are asking residents if they can please secure their bear attractants-
Put garbage cans in garages or sheds and take down bird feeders.
When the bear has so many food options (garbage cans) it will be far less likely to go in a trap. Ideally, the trap should be its only food option. We also ask you to please report any instances of the bear getting food. The faster we can respond, the more likely we will be able to catch and relocate the bear.

We appreciate all your help and hope to get this resolved as soon as possible
