◆ Fun and games begin on Friday, July 24 and continue on Saturday, July 25.
It’s a celebration of heritage this weekend with the annual Pioneer Day festivities in the Town of Cokeville and the Fairview community.
From softball to rodeo, parades to 5Ks, the community is invited to attend and enjoy some old-fashioned fun.
• Cokeville
The Town of Cokeville is planning a Pioneer Day Celebration for July 24 and July 25.
Friday, July 24 will feature the Little Buckaroo Rodeo, sponsored by the Cokeville Stock and Saddle Club. The rodeo action will begin at 10 a.m. in the Cokeville Arena.
Saturday, July 25 will kick off with a 5K family fun run in Cokeville. This will be a “Run for Swayzee” event with registration at the City Park from 6 – 6:45 a.m. The race will begin at 7 a.m.
The race route starts west of the railroad tracks and continues out to the Westside and back.
The Pioneer Day Parade in Cokeville will get underway at 10 a.m. on Cokeville’s main street.
The fun and games will then move to the Cokeville Park and will feature a vendor fair, food booths and family activities.
The Cokeville Stock and Saddle Club Ranch Rodeo will round out the day at 5 p.m. at the Cokeville Arena.
In addition to the Pioneer Day festivities, this year the Cokeville Rodeo Club is paying tribute to the individuals who have made the Cokeville Rodeo possible for the last 25 years.
The club is posting stories about the many individuals who have contributed to the Cokeville Rodeo, including: pickup men, flag bearers, announcers, secretaries, grounds workers, rodeo royalty and sponsors.
The rodeo club is honoring these contributors every day in July leading up to the rodeo on July 25.

• Fairview
The Pioneer Day Celebration in Fairview will get underway on Friday, July 24 with a family softball game from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Box-H Park.
The softball game is open to those age 12 and older. Bring your mitts and bats, lawn chairs and a family treat to enjoy.
Saturday, July 25 the Pioneer Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. with line-up starting at 9:30 a.m. on the road just south of the Box-H Park. The parade route will be the block around the Box-H. Attendees are encouraged to spread out around the entire square block to view the parade.
A flag ceremony, arena games and booth activities will follow at the Box-H Park.
The 2020 Fairview Pioneer Day event highlights include: a tug-o-war; nail pounding race, stick pulling; “Yee Haw!” yelling contest; and Stick Horse relay races.
There will be an ice cream sandwich eating contest; double dog dare hot dog eating contest; and cream pie eating contest.
A chicken dance, egg toss and water fight are also planned.
In addition to the arena games, various booth games and activities will be set up around the park – including a treasure hunt to find the hidden golden horseshoes.
This year there will not be a concession stand at the Fairview Pioneer Day Celebration. Instead, families are encouraged to bring their own picnic to enjoy. A designated picnic area will be set up at the park.
Donations to help cover the annual costs of electricity, water, garbage service and general maintenance at the Box-H Park are encouraged.
